Abstract

The study focus on shortcomings of the road system from a traffic safety
perspective, analyzing whether the necessary measurements would be socioeconomically viable. Possible measurements are the creation of safe areas at the side of the road, crash barriers or a reduction in the permitted speed. The first step is, in general, to create safe areas at the side of the road. However, as it might result in great costs or not be possible at all other options must be taken into account. Thus, the road can be provided with crash barrier to achieve the necessary traffic safety. In some cases, other measurements must be made as crash barriers are not possible. In such cases limiting the allowed speed is required. To achieve the formulated purpose an analysis of the selected measurements is carried out with the help of a tool for socioeconomic calculations.
