Abstract
This thesis explores how Systems Engineering methods can be used to develop a collaborative information management system, with the aim to facilitate knowledge formation within transdisciplinary teams in an organisational context. The international Systems Engineering standard ISO/IEC/IEE 12207 was selected as methodological framework and chosen technological processes of the system life cycle were applied throughout the project. Applied processes included definition of stakeholder needs and requirements, architecture and design definition for the system, realisation of the system, user testing and verification and validation of the system. The information management system was developed by configuring and adapting the open-source software MediaWiki. The resulting system included a module for hierarchically structuring stored information and the ability to navigate, search, categorise and create new pages. Findings indicated that the developed system could serve as an effective solution for information management. However, trade-offs needed to be made for the system to be both collaborative and secure.
